With professional assistance, you can overcome maladaptive behaviors and self-defeating thoughts that fuel substance use. The result? A better quality of life in both recovery and sobriety.

Understanding the Complexities

The root of addictive behaviors can trace back to various sources, including responses to trauma, genetic predispositions, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Irrespective of the origins, at Wave Treatment Centers, we collaborate with you to devise a personalized plan that caters to your specific needs. Our ultimate aim is to help you view addiction as a chronic condition that can be effectively managed over time.

Addiction and Substance Use Disorder FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a cure for addiction?

Addiction (also known as substance use disorder) is a chronic condition that can be managed and treated with a variety of treatments, from psychiatry to medication.

While there's no "cure" for addiction, the right treatment plan can help you overcome dependency on alcohol or opiates and improve your quality of life in recovery.

Contact Wave Treatment Centers for additional information.

  • What are the signs of addiction?

While addiction can present differently from person to person, there are some common symptoms that suggest that drug or alcohol use has become an addiction:

    • Significant unexplained changes in mood, personality, appearance, energy level, or weight
    • Difficulty focusing, concentrating, or following conversations
    • Frequent unexplained absences from work or school
    • Changes in sleeping habits
    • Pulling away from family and friends
    • Being unable to experience joy or cope with problems without using drugs
    • Acting with uncharacteristic violence or anger
    • Using drugs even when it is clearly dangerous to do so, such as when driving
    • Continuing to use drugs even after experiencing negative repercussions (such as job loss, physical harm, or legal problems) due to previous drug use
    • Experiencing physical pain or emotional distress when unable to access or use drugs
    • Trying to stop using drugs, but being unable to do so

  • What should I expect from outpatient detox?

Outpatient detox begins with a medical evaluation. Wave Treatment Centers understands that this is a difficult time for you. We make every effort to ensure you are comfortable during this process. The evaluation involves taking a very detailed history and asking a lot of questions about your substance use, as well as your past and present medical and psychiatric problems. We know this can be difficult to share and want you to know that with our non-judgmental approach, you will be treated with respect, compassion, and empathy.

The next step involves a physical examination to identify any immediate needs and assess what level of detox you might need. From there, an individualized treatment plan will be developed and reviewed extensively with you to ensure that all of your questions are answered.

This treatment plan typically involves the prescription of medications specific to the withdrawal state of the substance or substances that you are ready to stop taking. The doses and frequencies are specifically tailored to meet your unique physiology.

At Wave Treatment Centers, we do not automatically discontinue all “controlled substances” that you may be prescribed if they are outside of the problem of addiction. For example, some patients may be prescribed stimulants or anti-anxiety medications that they take as prescribed and never abuse. Unlike most inpatient programs that take away all medications even if they are helping, we look at the whole picture to assess what is in your best interest to achieve success.

This also means that we support and provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) when appropriate. We offer long-acting injectable forms of naltrexone and buprenorphine to support your recovery. Last but not least, we see how they dramatically reduce relapse rates.

  • Does insurance cover treatment for addiction?

While every insurance plan is different, many insurance companies offer coverage for addiction treatment.

If you are considering outpatient treatment for your alcohol or opioid depency, our caring staff will help you determine what your options are for insurance or other payment plans.

I contribute my 4 years of recovery largely to Dr. Beatty. I didn’t think recovery was even possible for someone like me. With the guidance and support of Dr. Beatty, I have been able to pull my life together completely. My plan for treatment was unlike any I had before, and that was exactly what I needed in order to succeed. Thank you very for everything Dr. Beatty, I could not have done this without you.
