Telehealth services have never been more needed than they are today. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we at Wave Treatment Centers have made several adjustments to ensure that we are able to remain a strong source of support for those who need us most.
Telehealth is a form of healthcare that can be obtained right from the comfort of your own home, office, or any other personal space. This process involves a healthcare provider connecting with a patient via video conferencing or telephone calls, eliminating the need for neither the patient nor the provider to have to meet in person in a shared space. In past years, telehealth has been utilized in some areas of healthcare, but the majority of all medical and mental health services have been conducted in-person. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly all healthcare providers have gone virtual with their care, meeting with patients over a video or telephone call. At Wave Treatment Centers, we have fully embraced telehealth and revere it as an excellent resource for us to continue to work closely with our patients while also encouraging all involved to stay safe and healthy.
What are the Benefits of Telehealth?
Telehealth is a service that has long been available to some, but not all. Now that telehealth is widespread and available in most all healthcare settings, more people have gotten to experience just how beneficial it can be.
Some of the benefits of telehealth include the following:
- Increased safety – During a time when we are living in a world where meeting in-person is not always ideal or even safe, telehealth has never been more beneficial. Being able to remain in the home while still receiving exceptional healthcare is a major benefit in keeping the public safe.
- Increased access – There are several individuals who face obstacles to receiving quality care, such as those who do not have proper transportation, who have health issues that keep them close to home, or who are struggling with mental illnesses to a point where they have little to no motivation to get up and go to an appointment. Telehealth opens up access to all of these individuals, allowing them to get the care they need.
- Expands availability for patients – A great deal of effort is taken out of the process of meeting with a provider when a telehealth service is being provided. There is no waiting in a waiting room, sitting in a doctor’s office until they finish with other patients, etc. Instead, providers can go to and from each client more quickly, allowing for more availability for those who need help.
- More cost-effective – Having the ability to hop on a telehealth call with a provider saves patients countless amounts of money. This accessibility makes it possible to save on parking, gas, babysitters, etc., allowing patients to have more freedom and finance to spend how they please.
